Activist Project Reflecting

The thing that is going really well with my project is the planning of the photoshoots. I have my people I am going to photograph set, and the dates planned to photograph them, and the locations picked out. They will also be writing up their PCOS story and giving them to me to use on the website, as well as to use some quotes on some posterboard to use in photos as well.

The biggest challenge I am having is really just getting the project going. It has felt like a kind of slow start, but I am excited that things will begin to pick up in the next few days. Working around Covid has also been a challenge. Trying to figure out places and time to do the photoshoots has been a bit tricky because of Covid.

The essay I choose was chapter 7 Again --- Segregation Must End. I choose this one because of the connection to wanting more people to learn and create peace. With PCOS there is very little information, and because it is just beginning to grow, there is always new information and things changing. Bell Hooks talks about white people having to relearn or unlearn the things they were taught as children. A similar thing is happening in the PCOS community as people try to figure if certain medications are actually helping or only prolonging symptoms, and as they learn that it is a more prevalent condition than they thought.

  1. Destiny,
I really love the concept of your project. I struggle with a similar disorder, so it's really uplifting to see your work create much needed representation for those affected. I think you're doing a great job getting started! Keep up the good work!

  2. Your photos are coming along really well. I am wondering about the slow start. Can you describe what is slowing things down, and which items are not moving along the way you'd like?

Animal Overpopulation

Animal Overpopulation is when there is an influx of animals in shelters and communities. This can be caused by not having pets spayed and neutered, bad breeding practices or too many animals being brought to shelters.      In the Granville county shelter reports  one of the biggest similarities is the dogs and cats have the highest rates of being brought into shelters and being euthanized. There is also a similarity in that cats have the highest euthanization rates even though the number of dogs and cats being brought into the shelter is very close. The biggest difference is the number of different types of animals being brought in. In 2014 only 5 different types of animals were brought into the shelter, whereas in 2019 there were 19 different types of animals being brought into the shelter. Another difference is that there were fewer euthanizations in 2019 than there were in 2014.      I attribute these things to the idea more peo...
